That's a pretty good thing to do. But I don't THINK it's a good alternative. I may be wrong, but I think interval training would be better at developing endurance. Not that what you're doing isn't really good. I just think interval running or cycling is slightly better. Note that I said I THINK so. I didn't do any sort of scientific study into the matter.

You go for a run, but you sprint full out for 30 seconds, then jog for 30 seconds, then run, then jog. Do this until you feel like you want to die.
