I've been doing martial arts since i was 12. My Current ranks are:
Shodan in Judo
Purple belt in BJJ
Blue belt in Traditonal Jiu Jitsu
3 years of muay thai(no ranking system there)
2 years boxing. (no ranking system there)
I'm a retired ammy MMA fighter as well.

Do shin guards defeat the purpose of training? hayabusa makes good stuff, but it's likely overkill and over rated, and is double the price b/c it's stylish. when i was training muay thai and mma alot, i used these: renegademmagear.com/Grappling_Shin_Guards.htm they are solid, and good if you are doing any grappling because they are a sleeve instead of straps. |

What martial art should I start with? true, to a point. there are some arts, no matter how good the instructor is, that wouldn't really work well in mma. Hapkido is one, to many of it's techniques are illegal, tai chi is another. they could have amazing instructors and class quality. but still wouldn't be a good start. |
