it varies, sometimes the hip bump sweep, or when i stay low ish to avoid that, they get back to 1/2 guard easily.

comment What martial art should I start with?
true, to a point. there are some arts, no matter how good the instructor is, that wouldn't really work well in mma. Hapkido is one, to many of it's techniques are illegal, tai chi is another. they could have amazing instructors and class quality. but still wouldn't be a good start.

comment How can I respectfully raise concerns about class difficulty level/teaching style at my club?
this is a great question, one i think almost everyone who has been in martial arts for a long time has had to deal with.

comment Has Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu been recognized as a form of Jiu-Jitsu in Japan?
this pretty much sums it up! great answer. as a practitioner of both, i must say, they are pretty much completely different arts, I cannot see a reputable school of either recognizing grades from the other. That would be like a tkd practitioners rank being recognized by an Aikido school.

comment Do all schools of BJJ come from the same root?
your answer is good! i just wanted to make it a little more clear that not all bjj is from the gracies, a very common misconception.

comment Do all schools of BJJ come from the same root?
all bjj came from Maeda, but it didn't all stem from the gracies after that. there are several branches straight from Maeda, which a lot of people seem to forget/ not realize. The Nova União team is a prime example of that.
