What material should be covered in a rape-defense course? I think a really critical question here is "How long do you have?". A teacher of mine used to do one-night (three-hour) seminars at the start of term for the co-eds, and that is a very different situation than two hours, twice a week for two months with I have also seen. |

Why doesn't aikido have kicking techniques? Notice that the question says nothing about "high kicks". My Yoseikan club practiced with kicks up to roughly the waist as technique, but only went higher than that to allow practice of responses. |

Was Goju-ryu developed specifically for use by the Japanese navy? "developed for Japanese naval soldiers, thousands/hundreds of years ago" Know much about the political and technological history of Japan? In particular do you know when they got floating vessels large enough to hold much of a fight on? Might shed a little light on the time period claimed here... |

Are there musical instruments which, when practiced, noticeably increase martial arts skills and performance? @Chris Hmmm. Martial arts helped me to sort out my feet on the dance floor... |

How can I improve my teaching of ukemi or break falling? Besides, you get some practice falling and rolling on a surface that is less perfect than the dojo floor. Outdoor training is always worthwhile and some students really do react differently out there. And some don't. |

Does Krav Maga have any roots of Aikido? I'm no master, but I know that I'm beginning to "get" a new system when I suddenly rediscover things I learned a long time ago in a dojo far, far away doing something entirely "different". |

What is the oldest documented Eastern Martial Art that is still practiced? This kind of question is hopeless wrapped up in the idea that guys lined up in colored belts and gis are doing something that is different in type from three dirty people in loin cloths (or less) trading techniques in a meadow or on the beach. I just don't see it: the difference is one only of degree. |

What glasses can I wear for martial arts training? Me too. I find that even with very poor eyesight I can see gross body movements just fine without my glasses or contacts, but if your opponent has tells in his or her facial expressions you may miss them without corrective lenses. I try to train both ways (with and without lenses) to maximize my learning but also train for the possible situation of having to fight without lenses. |

When should I run away? "Tell them you're going to reach for your dupe wallet" Er...I presume you meant "tell them your getting your wallet and reach for the duplicate". Good advice. |

What time requirement and certification does one need to become a Krav Maga instructor? Roughly the same way you become an instructor in any other system: keep studying until you are given partial responsibility for the training of others and accumulate enough experience in that task to be ready to handle students on your own, no? |

What strength and conditioning exercises are used in tai chi? "Any strengthening "gym" type work will basically be about isolation of muscle groups" Uhm..."functional training" and related regimes are not at all like that. |

How does one progress from tai chi push hands to free-sparring? Having done mostly external styles I have rarely achieved no-mind in sparring...but ah!...when it happens it is a beautiful thing. I have got to back into regular workouts soon. |

Sliding the Feet in Contact With the Ground It is very important to practice those indoor--barefoot skills in various footwear on various terrain. Not surprisingly you have to re-learn the skills. The interesting bit as far as I'm concerned is that I think it improved by in-the-dojo footwork. |
