comment Is there a US-based organization supporting Iaijutsu?
Not real mobile - the real question is about a broader organization that can provide support for both students and instructors (like AUSKDF does for Kendo) .

Good point...I'm not actually married to a particular style (Eishin Ryu is what I'm familiar with, but that familiarity is purely academic). For this question, I do mean iaijutsu, though your question makes me think a question around the difference would be good for the site (I'm not versed enough to answer myself beyond the historical and philosophical differences between the two).

6'2" and this is absolutely true - especially with the comment about not letting up once you're inside the guard. The only thing to watch out for is hooking techniques that end up hitting to the back of your head.

WTF or ITF-based discipline? WTF is very light on punching, but most ITF-based schools don't have the same stylistic issue with punching :)

comment Should I avoid open-handed blocks in sparring?
One thing that I would like to see answers address is the type of injuries (David's answer does a job with this). I prefer an open hand for many blocks during sparring and have seen far more jammed fingers than breaks or other injuries, but my experience may not be that of Rophuine.

Agreed, though in TKD, depending on the style and type of sparring gear, the point around damage to others is much less (particularly those who use hand guards).

Good point - modifying the question to be art specific.
