And by the way, I do weightlifting as well so I agree it definitely helps your game, but it's the key not to do it too much (maybe too is your definition of excessive bodybuilding). And it's a hype at the moment here in the Netherlands to bodybuild.

We both trained Grappling and I was his teacher at Pencak Silat. He trained less to become fitter but still 3 times a week. There was an increase in power which I struggled with in the beginning, but after a few months I could really feel the change.

By the way, one of those students was at the same level as I was (both on the ground as standing). Half a year further and he had grown 10 kg. He was now easy to reverse and though his punches could come strong and fast, it was much harder for him to adjust when he would miss. This is pure logic because there was more force behind his attack that he had to try to stop/adjust. Also on the ground he was a lot easier to submit. So yes I agree, but it's not the case for everyone and as long as someone always keeps that in the back of his or her mind, I think they're ok

I agree Dave, there are those, but not everyone is the same. Some people aren't that flexible by nature. I actually had 2 students who really had troubles in fighting because they trained a lot with weightlifting. It is also a problem that "too" isn't specific. If you keep training, you can always feel when you're going too far.

Luckily both MMA and my grappling training sessions are without gi. Your answer does sound interesting though, I have never heard about someone getting such a bold spot in training.

You mean braid the ponytail? At the moment my hair is too short for a braiding the ponytail. But I would like to try your method when it's long enough!.

Never too late to start training any Martial Arts :). You might even find that your rhythmic gymnastics and ballet will come in handy. Have fun!

Getting hair in my eyes doesn't give me a huge disadvantage, as I am still able to see and fight well. It's more the unnecessary irritation of the eyes. Also, braided hair barely comes lose so this is not a problem in competition.
