I'm currently studying Tomiki Aikido under Dr. Yoji Kondo, although I started in Yoshinkan aikido under Helton-Sensei. I'm also studying Taiji under D. Gilmer at StillwaterTaichi I'm informally studying jo and bokken.

Drills for teaching range analysis Deceptively simple question. I started to give a knee jerk answer, but then realized the subtlety. Can we clarify the question? The answers seem to make different assumptions about what you're asking. Are you asking for rapier, or for all martial arts weapons, or for empty hand? |

What are good martial arts for aging bodies? I like the general points you raise (although I had to re-read it several times before I was able to pull the content out of the typographical/editing problems "the foot work doesn't go the waist up"?). On the other hand, isn't this true of all kinetic arts? I believe my Tai Chi instructor would say the same things about Tai Chi. Good answer - better answer would compare to other arts or discuss what makes wing chun unique/distinctive. |

How dangerous is it to choke someone unconscious or to be choked unconscious? My dojo includes a number of physicians; they claim they can see the results of a blood choke on a brain scan. Both are quite dangerous. We haven't trained choke in quite a while, but I don't remember it affecting the trachea - I think I was breathing throughout. |

How dangerous is it to choke someone unconscious or to be choked unconscious? A well performed martial arts choke should result in unconsciousness within 3-5 seconds, so I'm not sure that the distinction between A and B is legitimate. |

Was Goju-ryu developed specifically for use by the Japanese navy? I believe this is a legitimate question, and I believe that it is possible to provide an objective, researched answer. |

Should political/religious discussions be allowed inside the training place? Concur with Mr. Newton. I can't imagine a non-anecdotal answer to this question. I think the question may be interesting, and even important, but I don't think it is constructive as we use the term. |

Can Forms (Kata/Poomsae/etc.) or Techniques (Waza) be practiced on the ground? Suggest two revisions. First, I think it would help to clarify that "ground" does not mean suwari waza or iado - ground seems to mean "grappling". Second, I the question seems to be "Are there ground fighting (grappling) kata?". The current question could be (mis) interpreted as "can standing kata be performed while prone?" |
