Did Karate really originate in the Okinawa region of Japan? Like @Sardathrion, I'd like to learn more of the research. |

How do I find out what are the laws on edged weapons in my country? @Sardathrion, I'm skeptical that it can be de-localized. How would you do it? |

How do I find out what are the laws on edged weapons in my country? I think this is an interesting question, but not a good MA:SE exchange question - the answer is (a) intrinsically local, since the answers apply only to one country and (b) the skills/techniques involved are legal research, not martial arts. |

Is kickboxing or boxing particularly dangerous? I would find it very difficult to answer this question. What do you mean by "dangerous"? Are you asking about the incidence of minor injuries (bruises, jams, sprains) or about the incidence of major long term injuries? e.g. dementia pugilistica? When you say "kickboxing" which of the many different rulesets do you mean? |

What are the purposes of martial arts forms? Do you have a source for the hidden techniques? (I agree with you, and I've been told this, but I have always wanted a source/citation). |

Why is Krav Maga expensive? That's a very interesting assertion; I don't doubt it, but I echo @JohnP's request for more details, because it would help me to understand something about Krav Maga. Reference/resource would also make it more responsivev to the OP. |

Origin of the “pinyon” in Villari's Shaolin-Kempo-Karate system? This answer corrects the spelling and confirms some of the memories, but it doesn't provide any real "insight" - what is the function/purpose of the pinions? Are there any resources that would provide more information? |

Transitioning between similar arts Re-reading the question, I now understand why Aikido was called out, but I don't seem to be able to edit my prior comment. |

What are the signs *not* to train at a specific school? I strongly agree with "Realistically most people don't need to train martial arts to defend themselves as most people won't be attacked anyway, so what I want out of effectiveness doesn't necessarily apply to someone else, but the bottom line is that training martial arts should not be worse for your personal safety and well being than not training martial arts." - I think that is far more important than mat color; I don't quite understand why mat color makes a difference. |

Transitioning between similar arts I'm not sure that is a useful/productive characterization of aikido. I am perhaps biased in that my instructor is adamant that effective technique is more important than adherence to doctrine, but I'm not sure it is useful to call out Aikido as preferring form over function. |

How does one progress from tai chi push hands to free-sparring? Commplex patterns can include partner exercises like "split vertical circle" and one with a more complex chinese name that I can't recall, but essentially trades the active role in ward off/rollback/press/push. Good answer @trevoke |
