comment Martial arts with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)?
Following the MRI the doctor said that the ACL actually developed a cyst from an older partial tear so the round kick might not have been what did it in. In short, it was going to go, it as just a matter of when and any activity that placed pressure on it could have caused it to go. For example, walking up the stairs with groceries could have been just as likely. During the kumite session I actually was only starting to bring my knee up to through the kick when it went.

@Trevoke - 'buries' => 'bruises' My spelling is off today. :/

comment What is a good push-up routine to build punch strength?
@slugster - Promotion up to ni-kyu is going to be contingent upon better refinement of my technique so we have been putting them under the microscope; however, upper body strength in and of itself is a bit of an issue.

comment Mouth guard / gum shields - tips?
+1, but I wanted to add that the mouth guard will generally have to be reformed after any dental work of note (e.g. some fillings, crowns, etc) and that depending on your age your teeth have a natural tendency to have some "drift" which can cause the fit to change.

comment What's the best way to sew badges onto a uniform so they don't come off?
Depends, at our school they told us we were mature adults who should be able to figure such things out. :)

Depending upon the school a patch might be required to show your school affiliation but beyond that they tend to just be there for flash that I agree isn't really needed.

comment Are there legal ramifications to being a trained martial artist?
Seems like it is very much inline with the United States based upon what I have heard from others as well.

@Trevoke - Might be a good idea to do so, but I don't see the option to do it myself.

comment Are there legal ramifications to being a trained martial artist?
@Trevoke - I'll tag the question with the united-states tag, but I also don't want to discourage others from answering regardless of their country.

comment Which muscles do I use to stand?
@Ho-ShengHsiao - Context is what makes a question on or off topic because evetually they want the questions to be searchable by people on Google. Without more context to a question, i.e. tai chi in the revised question, there isn't much to separate it from a basic anatomy question even though someone might be interested in it specifically due to the applications to a martial arts.

@Trevoke - Can you rephrase the question to tie it into a specific martial art or clarify exactly what you are asking as to why it relates?

@SimonPeterChappell - True, but I've sewn patches on the same way and they held up, depends upon how much wear and tear you are going to be putting on the patch. For applications where someone might use it to get a grip, odds are nothing will hold up over the long term.
