Force with a spear Also, the strikes(swings) were quite forceful. I do not know if this was because it was a demo of the most basic techniques or because the techniques are supposed to work with a staff too. |

Force with a spear Just a small comment. I was recently briefly shown some kali with a spear. The guy often used the following follow up after a strike or stab. He pulled the weapon through the throat of the adversary, supposedly cutting it. |

How to improve speed and footwork? They once made us do footwork with feet buried in the sand. This provides resistance and makes you really commit your body to the move. Then, without the resistance, one moves much faster. Beaches are cool. Also I like training footwork when ankle-, knee-, waist- or shoulder-deep in the see. However, no one showed me this and I am not sure if it is exactly pedagogical. |

Ways for restraining an “automatic aggression response” Last summer I made a one month trek in the Balkan mountains. One guy was 70-year old. Also, ngepit.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/burn_fat.jpg |

Ways for restraining an “automatic aggression response” Not a direct answer (I would also LOVE to see an answer), but in my opinion you failed multiple times. That is, you failed to spot the anxiety at those strangers (although you were unoccupied), you failed to keep your distance (although there was plenty of free space on the street) and THEN you failed to keep cool when they attacked you (emotionally). Check this out: conflictcommunications.com/Articles.htm . Maybe a good advice is to get used to thinking about the consequences of your action, no the very action (e.g. live 10 seconds in the future). Maybe not. |

Ways for restraining an “automatic aggression response” +1 for "Often we learn not by doing the right thing, but by doing the wrong thing and realising afterwards that it was wrong." |

Conflict escalation management resources I would like to read some theory in order to get some things to think about. To know what questions to ask myself and answer now, not at a moment that something dangerous is happening. |
