Drills for reducing your natural “flinch” reaction Like @Ho-ShengHsiao said flinching is a fear reaction from stimulus, but it's the brain and nervous system that does the reaction. So Simon is partially correct. WebMD has a decent article on it: men.webmd.com/news/20040820/what-makes-you-flinch |

Mouth guard / gum shields - tips? @slugster Good to know, thanks! I have a friend with a smaller mouth and he has some issue with fit on the self forming ones. I'll pass your suggestion along. |

How do I increase hip flexibility for round kicks? Thanks for the tip, I already do some basic knee exercises due to an injury, but I'm sure I don't do enough. |

What are the ankles good for, relative to stance work and mobility? @Trevoke I think the title of the question "What are the ankles good for?" is throwing people. Maybe it should be something like "Proper Ankle Usage/Form while kicking?" Or along those lines. At a biomechanical level the Ankle is an important joint, so it's good for giving us the ability to be bipedal j/k :-). |

Mouth guard / gum shields - tips? The self forming boil and bite ones that I've bought conform very well to my my mouth. So much so that they don't move or fall out when I'm moving a lot, or breathing deeply. Would an orthodontist one be recommended for everyone, or just people with special dental conditions, i.e. false teeth, bridges, etc. |

How do I increase hip flexibility for round kicks? Thanks @BenCole I'll give your steps a shot! But being a visual learner it can be hard to translate the steps into actions. |

What's the difference between Internal and External martial arts? @Ho-ShengHsiao I'd be interested to read some more into this if someone can provide some references or places to look. The only other thing I can really find on this topic, other then the normal line of thinking, is that Internal/External were more of a advertising tactic. But I always figured that meant they were trying to advertise the 'stronger' art. Could very well be that I misunderstood and they were advertising domestic verses foreign. Very interesting. |

How do I increase hip flexibility for round kicks? I can usually get a 180º rotation on my planted leg and get my hips turned. I can replicate the pain when doing the splits, my abductors are not tight or strained, but some muscle group or ligament on the outside of the hip is. I can't see to get it stretched out well to increase flexibility. |
