Have been doing Judo more on than off for about 31 years now. For various boring reasons, mostly involving either geography or two jobs, I have never made it to Black belt. On the other hand I have fought my way from white belt to top brown three times. Have also done enough Fencing, Karate and Kung Fu to suspect that I know something about them.
Working hard to become a full-time pastor, so I try to keep out of fights these days. Still, it's kind of nice to be your own usher when dealing with someone difficult. :-)

Why do martial artists “shout” in the execution of a technique? True. I don't think that I was saying it couldn't be. More indicating that it's manner of expression was different. |

What's the most effective way to discipline students (particularly juniors)? Yes, yes, yes. The more active you keep youngsters, the more fun they have and the less they play up because they're bored. I used to help teach an under-11's class and also an 11-16 class, so I've also learned this from experience. |

What are the classical/canonical books for Aikido (all styles) I can't contribute an answer, but I like the question. :-) |

Drills for reducing your natural “flinch” reaction The Duke says that bravery is being afraid and saddling up anyway. I'm sticking with a flinch being an automatic reaction to physical stimulus. These reactions can, with dedicated effort, be trained out or trained in, so that tends to discount the fear stimulus. |

Drills for reducing your natural “flinch” reaction I just have to say that flinches are an automatic behaviour of the body's nervous system. They are absolutely not based on fear. |

What's the best way to sew badges onto a uniform so they don't come off? @Rob Z - And that's why the good Lord gave us mothers. :-) |

What's the best way to sew badges onto a uniform so they don't come off? @Rob Z - That's true. If the school requires a certain patch in a certain location, then they would be the best ones to advise on the appropriate manner of attaching it. |
