comment Martial art without exam and secrets
Hardly an expansive, explanatory answer. Should be a comment unless you can flesh it out some.

If you have someone that teaches you and "holds back" because they think you might beat them someday, that person should not be an instructor. The primary goal for ANY instructor, and a great compliment to the instructor is when the student can outperform them.

@KeithNicholas - The internet has different standards than most SE sites.

I realize that it is tongue in cheek, but as evidenced, a martial arts beginner may not know that you are mocking the style.

comment What is the name of the traditional taekwondo black belt bo form?
Is it possible that the form is named different? The only "chumbi" form I found was an introductory one by Westerfield TKD club, but a few that suggested it was a misspelling of "choon be", or the ready command.

As Andy Jeffries states, Kukkiwon does not recognize any official weapons forms. ATA has 3 different jangh bong forms, short range, long range and windstaff. I know a WTF school locally that has two different staff forms, which is different than the WTF school I attended in Nevada.

comment What are the belt colors of Tae Kwon Do in order?
Got it. And yes, a lot of federations allow Dan ranks to promote to a dan rank two below them. (3rd to 1st, 4th to 2nd, etc.), with high ranks (4+) needing a testing panel.

Ah, cheers! I missed that when I was reading through yesterday.

You talk about Dan rankings, they are not color belts. And you seem to treat the Kukkiwon as the sole arbiter of belts in TKD, which is far from the case.

You left out poom ranks, as well as that not all TKD associations recognize 4th dan as Master, some are higher.

I don't believe you have to be a 4th degree to conduct a colored belt test. You do (or have to bring in people) for dan testings, but I believe for colored belts you can be under 4th dan and still conduct the testing.

@SeanDuggan - Some of it is marketing, but if you look at the meaning for each belt, it fits in. ATA compares the colored belt levels to the growth of a pine tree (Songahm, the ATA style, means pine tree and rock). Camouflage is the first level where light contact sparring (as opposed to one steps) is introduced, and the accompanying belt meaning is "The sapling is hidden among the taller pines and must new fight its way upward". Agreed, most belt colors are arbitrary anyway. The old adage about a black belt being a really dirty white belt doesn't account for orange, blue, purple, etc. :p

comment When are the new WTF competition rules going to happen?
+1. Add to this that WTF is not about to risk upsetting the powers that be in the Olympic committee. If you take away the Olympics, the WTF becomes just another martial art. There were already concerns about the number of knockouts/injuries in Olympic TKD bouts, I VERY much doubt that they would introduce higher levels of potential injury.

While there are some talented martial artists on bullshido, take some of what they say/do with a grain of salt. Many there are of the opinion that if you don't sit on your opponent mashing his face into the pavement, your martial art isn't worth it.
