comment What are the belt colors of Tae Kwon Do in order?
@SeanDuggan - Some of it is marketing, but if you look at the meaning for each belt, it fits in. ATA compares the colored belt levels to the growth of a pine tree (Songahm, the ATA style, means pine tree and rock). Camouflage is the first level where light contact sparring (as opposed to one steps) is introduced, and the accompanying belt meaning is "The sapling is hidden among the taller pines and must new fight its way upward". Agreed, most belt colors are arbitrary anyway. The old adage about a black belt being a really dirty white belt doesn't account for orange, blue, purple, etc. :p

comment When are the new WTF competition rules going to happen?
+1. Add to this that WTF is not about to risk upsetting the powers that be in the Olympic committee. If you take away the Olympics, the WTF becomes just another martial art. There were already concerns about the number of knockouts/injuries in Olympic TKD bouts, I VERY much doubt that they would introduce higher levels of potential injury.

While there are some talented martial artists on bullshido, take some of what they say/do with a grain of salt. Many there are of the opinion that if you don't sit on your opponent mashing his face into the pavement, your martial art isn't worth it.

comment Taekwondo Block Bunkai Vs. Shotokan Block Bunkai
ATA. Some of our strikes do wrap as you mention, but the blocks aren't quite as emphasized as the picture you show (With an atrocious front stance btw), and many do chamber out in front. I started in Shotokan originally, and I had a much easier time adapting to arm/hand techniques than I did to stance differences.

You can also consider that many styles teach overemphasized chambers to emphasize it, as many many students doesn't do things as far/tight/extended as they think they do.

Also consider that you have chosen two separate blocks, rather than comparing the same block between styles. In my variant of TKD, my low block chamber has my blocking fist on my opposite shoulder, with my block elbow pointing out and down from my body, not wrapped around my neck. Our inner forearm block (Which matches the middle block in your video) chambers in front in the same fashion as the video.

comment Reducing Soreness?
Yes, I'm aware of that effect, and I blame that for assisting with my achilles rupture. I guess what I was having trouble with was the "stuck" nomenclature, as they don't really stick, they readjust their internal thermostat so to speak.

Sigh.... Lactic acid is a fuel, and is NOT responsible for DOMS. I'd also be interested in your reference for muscle spindles getting "stuck" in shortened positions.

comment Between Kyokushin and Shotokan, which focuses more on hard sparring and less on kata?
@Trevoke - You need to lighten up. "krotty" has been an inside joke since I've been in martial arts (30 years now), as has fancy pajamas.

comment How to learn these movements?
Add to that, NASKA has both creative and extreme divisions in weapons and empty hand forms that are very popular, and participated in by both many men AND women. And it is very hard to be good at "tricking" if you aren't already very good at the underlying basics of martial arts. Just because YOU don't like it, doesn't mean it isn't a valid, recognized extension of martial arts.

comment Is it respectful for someone of a coloured rank to date a black belt?
When I was teaching on a regular basis, I had my wife as one of my students. Unless you are in a VERY formal, old school style dojo, then it shouldn't matter. Just talk to your school owner about it.

This would be primarily wushu, not much of TKD except that some kicks cross over between arts (and are common to almost all karate styled arts). I also voted to move to Martial Arts, although your answer here is pretty much what they would say. You can also tell it's more towards wushu with the brief sword clip.

comment A straight Punch on the nose can knock a person unconscious. How do fighters (MMA, Boxers etc) survive such repeated direct blows to their nose?
The punch to the nose doesn't cause the knockout directly (By that I mean there isn't any thing special about the nose). What causes unconsciousness is the brain slamming into the interior of the skull, and/or shearing force in the brainstem.
