-1. Exercise (ANY exercise, including MA) you will only lose flexibility to the limits of the range of motion. Stronger muscles are more flexible than weaker ones. I would also point out that while technically correct, much of TKD demands flexibility for optimum, or even decent performance.

@DaveLiepmann - Because MA is a beta site. You can't recommend migration from a beta site, you can only flag. I am inclined to leave it here, as it is more widely applicable to a MA audience, than the limited number of people on a fitness site that would benefit from the answer.

comment How to avoid calf pain with heel stomp
I was experimenting with this, and I found that weight position relative to the foot either reduced or increased instability. The more I got directly over the impact point, the less stress I felt. The more in front or behind I got, the more I felt the impact.

Why is this split in two different answers? You should pick one or the other and combine them.

Late VTC as being too broad, esp considering the "which is more practical" addition.

Ah. Not quite as bad an idea, I still don't like having a complete unforgiving backdrop, but not as bad as kicking. :)

Strapping a kick shield to a tree is a really bad idea. Very easy to miss and cause damage, the tree doesn't give way on hard impacts, and you can't really wrap your foot. Lots of easy ways to get injured.
