comment Benefits of a formal senpai/kohai relationship within an Aikido dojo
@Mikalichov I try to answer in a way where there is both an obvious and a not-so-obvious answer. In this case, I didn't. This came after years of chasing down the wrong thing. Looking for a specific code of honor. Looking for a specific set of rules. Turned out, my teachers and the older students had already figured it out ... and it is a lot simpler than precise calculations the same way your body starts naturally flowing faster than your ability to calculate. Do you trust your sempai to pull you from the brink? Would you give yourself to look out for your kohai?

@Mikalichov I think you still miss the point. But that's how life goes.

@Mikalichov heheheheh, being responsible for and taking care of someone changes you as a person. And this change takes you right to the essence of martial arts.

@Mikalichov The bond between semapi and kohai has more to do with being brothers and less about rank. Rank is just the outer form. Because rank is obvious, people mistakenly attribute that to all there is to sempai and kohai. If you don't understand what it means to be brothers, then what I said would not make sense, would not be useful, and would not be intelligible to you. Thanks for your impressively obvious observations :-)

Bah. "Boys like to know who is in charge and what are the rules." So of course sempai/kohai is viewed this way. And when you do, you miss the whole point.

@stslavik Well, I appreciate you pointing this out. Perhaps you'd like to create your own answer that does not include abnormal social behaviors?

@stslavik I still can't tell whether you are trolling me or not, but it is good either way :-) The people who get offended like that usually have a tell. Their movements become rigid and stiff. I'm sure you'd recognize that from your early days in ninpo budo taijutsu. We've all been there as newbies. Good manners isn't so much about attention to detail as it is about respect and care that flows naturally out of love and acceptance. Getting caught in the details is a hilarious trap. Hope I didn't ruin your dinner just talking about this :-D

@RSid cool. Let us know how it goes, maybe we can improve the ideas here.

@stslavik Hmmmm, not sure I'd want to do business with someone that takes offense so easily. ... (Actually... it'd be hilarious to meet someone who is offended by switching left and right. That's an interesting pathology I'd like to observe closely ... )

comment Are there musical instruments which, when practiced, noticeably increase martial arts skills and performance?
I'll add that the specific choices does matter in one regard: enjoy what you do, even when it is tough. If you carry resentment into it , you won't receive as much as it can offer.

David H. Clements and Trevoke has some good stuff in their answers. Check them out.

Highlight the main point. I missed that the first time I read it and it came across as "human brain is not good at multitasking so don't even try using two hands"

This is generally a good advice for two or more body parts: move them all together at once. On the other hand, my experience with that specific double-weaving pattern is that the pattern was too difficult to learn straight-up this way. YMMV.
