Benefits of a formal senpai/kohai relationship within an Aikido dojo Does the relationship get nuanced by people who are your elders in term of age? |

Is there a written, authoritative source I can reference for interpretations (Bunkai) of Karate (Shotokan) katas? @stslavik True. The edit just really emphasized that 'Shotokan' was in the title. Now I also want to add the word 'waza' to the title, though.. I mean, if we go for exactness, we may never be done. |

Why do martial artists “shout” in the execution of a technique? The release of inner power can be applied to any movement, not only striking moves. |

Is there a written, authoritative source I can reference for interpretations (Bunkai) of Karate (Shotokan) katas? Given the amount of misinformation and stupid stuff around, and the amazing lack of real understanding out there, I'd say yes, it is. |

What methods are effective for increasing co-ordination on dual handed techniques? @stslavik Haha, nice little edit. |

What methods are effective for increasing co-ordination on dual handed techniques? That's a good point. I remember reading that some people can understand more than they can do and some people can do more than they can understand. I fall in the latter category - I just copy the weaving pattern and eventually my brain catches up. I think all the advice you gave in your answer is at the very least a great starting point. |

Benefits of a formal senpai/kohai relationship within an Aikido dojo @Sardathrion The way I read the question now, I consider it perfectly acceptable. I'm waiting for the follow-up question of "how to set up a senpai/kohai relationship in an American school" :-) |

Benefits of a formal senpai/kohai relationship within an Aikido dojo There are three questions here: what are the benefits of learning Aikido, what is a senpai-kohai relationship, and do you know of a western aikido dojo that actually preserves the japanese culture enough to have a good senpai-kohai relationship. I think that's too much for just one question... Please consider asking three questions instead. |

What are the ankles good for, relative to stance work and mobility? Regarding the inner structure of the movements - if you can't explain it, can you at least come up with a useful lie that gets me on the right track? I'll take a koan, an analogy or a haiku, whatever helps you get the point across! |
