comment How effective are foul techniques as a side control escape?
@Sardathrion, I am aware of playing the devil's advocate, and there's no need to really answer me, but is it OUR responsibility to know the laws in OP's country? And is this law.SE or martialarts.SE ?

Fix grammar, a little bit of formatting.

@Sardathrion Huh? He wrote "I would be in position to deal with it TO GET AWAY using level of the force that I perceived TO SAVE MY SKIN". IANAL but that seems to me like the textbook legal definition of self-defense.

Ouch, I really thought this was a good answer! I'd like some feedback from the downvoter, if possible, so I can improve as a martial artist.

comment What is Fa-jin?
So, coiling the spine and then suddenly relaxing it would be a good example, but not the only way, because it can be done at varying degrees anywhere in the body, and with the right connection, it can be the entire body together?

I'm guessing that when you describe the 'common first step' you're hinting at a drill that helps develop the suddenness of the release?

At the risk of being redundant, could you indicate explicitly what your 'purpose' is? Is it to win a duel, to survive, to win a tournament, to maim, to kill, or something else entirely? I believe the answer will depend on this.

@dmckee is right. It is impossible to break things down to a single concept. A number of things come into play together. "Physics 101" is what got us here in the first place -- a limited model for the world. Time for a new model.

I don't know if this answers the question, but it's certainly valuable information.
