Nescire autem quid ante quam natus sis acciderit, id est semper esse puerum. Quid enim est aetas hominis, nisi ea memoria rerum veterum cum superiorum aetate contexitur? -- Cicero, Marcus Tullius (106-43BC)

@MarkC.Wallace: Does it matter to this question?...

An addendum to the question would be how to evaluate a potential school. This would be a question in its own right, possibly a duplicate, but certainly worth asking -- if no duplicate can be found...

How bad are you joints? Did you seek medical advice on how to fix them?

Aikido has way too many joint techniques to be safe if you already have bad joints. Not sure if that is relevant or not to this question...

comment Why drop the bokken vertical prior to a downstroke?
@MarkC.Wallace: Indeed, that is what I found as well and thus why I am not doing it. Also moving the bokken from the spine to vertical is a waste of energy.

Aikido and Omotokyo would be another example...

Could you define your terms? Do you mean politics as martial art organisation(s) politics? Do you mean religion as in boggly stuff such a ki/chi and other magic within martial arts? If so, could you edit your question a little as I think that would be very much on topic. If, on the other hand, you refer to politics and religion as outside of a martial art context, then you question is overly broad.

comment Is the Olympic sport of Tae Kwon Do uniquely Tae Kwon Do like?
Hum, there are at least two questions there and one of them (concerning Karate) invites opinions. I would rephrase the question to make it more focused.
