How do I keep the bo staff from moving off centre as I train in twirling it? Hey, a better way to find the centre is to hold the staff in between your index fingers and thumbs, with the palms of both hands facing each other. Slide both hands together slowly - they will meet in the centre point by weight. This is especially useful if your staff is uneven or has a weight on one end like a spear head. |

What's the difference between Internal and External martial arts? Hi Trevoke - see the first paragraph under history for a start: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neijia |

What's the difference between Internal and External martial arts? It's not controversial - it's actually well documented that the above answer is the origin of the terms. Does it reflect current meaning? Maybe not. |

Going up on the ball of the foot for a front snap kick How important is your own balance versus gaining a little bit of reach? It's a personal or stylistic choice. |

What kind of damage can your hand get from holding the barrel of a fired gun when disarming it? He's talking about a disarm technique - the pistol (or other firearm) is taken off the attacker. Difficult without a grip. |

What's the difference between Internal and External martial arts? Tai Chi is the only one I know of that is slow - Hsing I Chuan and Bagua Zhang are not usually done slowly. Hsing I in particular is quite fast! |

Is practising techniques on both the left and right sides beneficial or detrimental to martial development? Not really an answer, but I believe Kendo trains one side exclusively. |

Are there legal ramifications to being a trained martial artist? I understand that it's basically the same here in Australia - I believe it falls under the "reasonable person" test - "each person owes a duty to behave as a reasonable person would under the same or similar circumstances." The "reasonable-ness" of your actions in defending yourself is assessed by a jury. |
