During the Hell Dojo times of Ueshiba, he was known to teach shuriken throwing. After a famous incident, this stopped.

Is there any records of how this was taught? What style of shuriken was thrown? I assume the long bladed ones but confirmation would be nice.

The only thing I can contribute about this is that Morihiro Saito did practice Shuriken throwing, but allegedly he was not particularly keen in teaching it.

My sources mention Negishi Ryu as the main influence. (Shuriken are also part of the Daito Ryu curriculum, apparently https://daitoryu-shikoku-hombu.com/en-us/about-daito-ryu/etiquette)

ADDED: I found a couple of videos allegedly recorded in Iwama, showing people training with Shuriken: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO99MsPJqC4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bihSOeJwjFA

These confirm the stories I heard from people who trained in Iwama (basically, when asked about Shuriken, Saito Sensei would say "put an old tatami against a wall and just throw darts at it. For years") but I also remember having seen a longer video, with English commentary, recorded around Iwama and showing Saito using shurikens, but so far I have not been able to find it again).
