Even if we (me and the other guy) start lightly and with an understanding to go slow, things eventually escalate (unless they are a friend). When I am sparring with men, I am always thinking about winning; that is mentally exhaustive. I am always concerned that they don't get to land a big shot and get away with it; that I return most if not every strike. Sometimes, I don't want to be that exhausted. And I just want to focus on my technique and have some fun.

This is because when I spar with them, I can be loose and relaxed. I can focus on my technical fighting, on my defense, and on my combos and new moves. At least in my gym, the women are masters of technical fighting. I can't count the number of times they have kicked me in the head with some wicked move. I remember getting my butt kicked by two girls because they had excellent technique and timing. One of them taught me the "snake kick".
