As an engineer, I feel like I gotta throw in that I understand the appeal of armed martial arts, but I study Historic European Martial Arts. 😆 The real question is why someone with the means wouldn't learn to use weapons?

I agree this is trying to be an eastern style sword, but that's not my area of expertise. Maybe they just made something that "looks cool" and left it at that?

@PhilipKlöcking "grappling" is a very umbrella term in HEMA usage, but the broad sense of it would be any non-percussive, non-weapon strike. This includes locks, binds, tripping, etc.

I’m voting to close this question because I think this isn't really about martial arts. A lot of them include meditation and can get you into flow-like states and martial arts which use them should mention it in historic manuals, but I am not sure we are the SE site for this

@vorac that other action, with the disengage, it's also called "slipping the blade," and it can be as small lowering the point a few inches, like a lazy posta-longa. It's not as far down as fool's stance (or iron door), but more like if you point to the navel instead of the throat in long guard. Some german fencing specifically recommends breaking/overcoming long guard with a sideways cut, btw.
